Momenta Florida Orange Tonic Review: Bubbly and Bland

Posted 03/18/2025

Momenta is a Cannabis brand centered around health and wellness. Since 2022 they have been known for medicated tinctures, capsules, topicals, and “tincture tabs”, a sort of chewable edible. Most recently, they have released a unique dissolvable tonic powder, made to be mixed with water, but can also be directly dissolved orally. As of now, this tonic comes in one flavor named “Florida Orange.” Momenta products are only available at Trulieve dispensaries nationwide, however the Florida Orange Tonic only seems to be sold in Florida for now, which requires a medical card (sorry tourists). The Bud Breakdown sent a local patient to pick up and test this tropical tonic to see if it is worth the hype, or just fizzles out.

Simple Packaging

Out of the dispensary, a 10 pack of 50 Milligram tonic powders cost around $25. With a total of 500 Milligrams, this is not a bad deal. Since Florida currently has only allowed Cannabis for medical use, tax will not apply. The packaging is extremely minimalist (almost boring) with only the Memento branding featured on the package. The packets themselves are even simpler with nothing but the “THC !” warning in red.

From Powder to Fizz

Opening the simple THC-labeled packet reveals a white powder meant to be dissolved in around 16 ounces of water. The packet has a rough perforation, however our patient found it easier to open it with a pair of scissors, rather than risk losing any powder trying to pry the packet open. The orange scent is immediately noticeable. Once poured into a glass of water, a slight fizz begins to rise from the solution. It will require some stirring to fully dissolve. Once mixed, the solution turns an opaque white color with a thin foamy head appearing at the top for around 10 minutes. The carbonation was a bit mild, at maybe a 1/10th the strength of a Coca-Cola.

A Not-So-Sweet Orange Flavor

The flavor of the tonic is decently strong. It can be described as a lightly sweet/ slightly bitter orange flavor, more comparable to water steeped in orange rather than orange juice or Sunny D. Understandably, coming from a powder, it does taste moderately artificial. In our testing, we used water slightly colder than room temperature, which made the most sense for a tonic. What was most disappointing was the lack of carbonation, which was so light as to almost be nonexistent. The carbonation level falls dramatically after around 10-15 minutes, so try to drink it within this time frame. It was an agreeable beverage, however, that went down easy.

As a side note, the powder was also tested by directly dissolving it orally which caused the flavor to be much more concentrated and unpleasant, comparable to “dry scooping” pre-workout. It feels impractical to try to ingest the entire packet in this way due to the amount of powder. I wouldn't recommend this ingestion method unless you find yourself in a hurry, or take the powder in small doses. In most cases, you will be using this product to relax, so it makes more sense to take the time to mix it with water and enjoy it.

Effects

Like most THC infused beverages, the effects will begin to take hold after 30-45 minutes. At 50 Milligrams per dose. It produces a mid-level high that will not be too overpowering for small tasks. It contains only THC (no CBD, CBN, etc.). In this way, it is comparable to a Sativa-based edible. Its effects are more calming than relaxing. On the Trulieve website, it describes the tonic as “Ideal for daily pain relief, aging individuals, and wellness-focused parents.” It is difficult to recommend this specific product for pain relief, as an indica-based, or CBD-containing edible with a more significant body high would be better suited for pain. I am not exactly sure what Trulieve means by suggesting this product is ideal for “aging individuals.” My first thought is that older generations might be more familiar with tonics than younger ones. More likely, they are hinting at arthritis and other painful afflictions common among older adults. However, this relates to pain, which, as previously stated, is better treated by indica-based and CBD containing edibles. I am more inclined to agree with the recommendation to parents. The calming effects of this tonic could help keep parents from becoming overwhelmed and anxious while also allowing them to remain relatively active.

Conclusion

Testing Momenta’s first tonic was a unique, fun, and novel experience. There is no doubt it is a break from the usual cookie, brownie, and gummy edibles. Even among Cannabis beverages, there is nothing exactly like it. There are other Cannabis tonics available in the wider market, such as Tonic Fizz and Tonic + from the Tonic Beverage Brand. Unlike Momenta’s take, these come in bottles, not powdered form. There are also other Cannabis powders meant to be dissolved in water. Ripples, for example, offers flavored and unflavored powders for the same purpose. Momenta even offers its own unflavored THC powder in select locations. However, these alternatives do not contain carbonation.

Getting past the novelty of this product, it becomes harder to recommend. The flavor is more bland and unexciting compared to most other Cannabis beverage brands. If carbonation is what you are looking for, then a Cannabis soda such as CQ’s Dr Quencher or the aforementioned Tonic Fizz will have stronger, longer-lasting carbonation than Momenta’s tonic. There are many other non-carbonated Cannabis drinks with better flavors. For example, Uncle Arnies, a beverage brand recently reviewed by The Bud Breakdown, offers many exciting flavors from sweet tea lemonade, to blueberry. One advantage Momenta’s tonic does have over other Cannabis beverages is a complete lack of weed flavor that many users find unpleasant. If you are someone who avoids edibles due to the taste of Cannabis, this product is perfect for you. While nutrition content is not included on the packaging, it is safe to assume that Momenta’s tonic contains less calories and less sugar than most other medicated beverages, making them perfect for diabetic or calorie conscious users.

Current Medical Cannabis laws and the lack of brand diversity in Florida limits the variety of medicated consumables in the state. In the current local market, Momenta put forth an appealing break from the norm. One that could be worth a try for patients tired of monotony.
